Luke 3:1–6 Advent with John the Baptist

Excerpt

The life of John the Baptist is a picture of Advent, of what it means to long for and wait for Jesus. John the Baptist’s life reflects and represents the history of God’s people from Abraham to Jesus.

John is the culmination of the Old Testament call to repentance in anticipation of Christ’s coming. His whole life is a pointer, a highway through the mountains and valleys of the corruption of Israel, to help people see Jesus. We are likewise called to live our lives waiting for, looking at, and pointing to Jesus.
